Project Type: Junior Studio, Group
Date: April 2025
Project Brief:
We were tasked with creating a project inspired by and utilizing recycled materials. Over the course of four weeks, we had to ideate, fabricate, and produce a fully functional model utilizing accurate, sustainable materials.
Crushy is a compact and lightweight AirTag case crafted from recycled cans and styled to resemble a crushed aluminum can.
Research
Over 80 billion aluminum cans are used every year.

Aluminum requires more energy to mine and produce than any other metal.

When recycled, aluminium returns 90% of the input material while only requiring 5% of the energy necessary to mine more material.
Over 55 million AirTags have been sold since being introduced in 2021.

Material Testing
Once we decided on Aluminium as a material, we decided to test casting it to ensure everything would go smoothly in the future. We realized we cannot recycle the cans ourselves, but we could use recycled aluminum for this test. So, for the initial test, we used a scrap piece of Aluminum from another project.
We used sand casting to cast the final prototype.
